Company Profile

Rotterdam Films Founded is an independent production company founded by Dirk Rijneke and Mildred van Leeuwaarden. It produces and co-produces high quality documentaries and fiction films for cinematic release.

The thriller REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM by Oskar Jonasson, a co-production between the Icelandic production company Blueeyes Productions, Rotterdam Films and Bavaria Film International has been selected as the Icelandic Oscar Entry 2010. REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM has been picked up recently by Working Title for a remake starring Mark Wahlberg (Oscar nomination for THE DEPARTED). The worldsales rights of REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM are represented by NonStop Sales.

The film was a box-officehit in Iceland and it won five Edda’s a.o. best director.

The Dutch premiere was at the International Rotterdam film festival on 30 January. The film has been selected for the main program of that festival. The film will be released in the Netherlands the 28th of February 2010 by distributor Contact Film.

Shooting now is Silent Ones (THE SILENT ONES) Ricky Rijneke’s first feature film, starring Hungarian actress Orsi Toth (Women without Man, Lourdes, Delta) , who was EFP shooting star at Berlinale 2009.

Silent Ones is produced in the framework of ‘De Verbeelding’ a co-operation between the Dutch Film Fund and the Mondriaan Foundation. Four projects won a production grant. The project was selected for the Cinemart 2009 of the IFFR. Read the interview in the IFFR 2010 special of Filmbeeld.

Executive production was done for Ricky Rijneke’s first short film WING, the fish that talked back that premiered in the official international competition of the Locarno Film festival, (world premiere Leopards of Tomorrow Competition). The film was presented at a lot of international film festivals such as Ghent (Competition Prix UIP), San Francisco (Golden Gate Award Competition), Rotterdam, Hamburg, Denver and Bilbao.

Earlier Rotterdam Films also produced, initiated and conceived, City Life, the monumental award winning episode film. Directors involved are among others Krzysztof Kieslowski, Béla Tarr, Alejandro Agresti, José Luis Guerin and Mrinal Sen.

City life had its world premiere on the opening night of the IFFR and was the closing film of the Berlin Festivals´ Young Forum.
